Tony Hawk on Instagram: “Yesterday I got invited to skate one of the only vert ramps in Belgium. It was a mission akin to skating in the 80’s: drive 2.5 hours to meet up with a small crew at a remote location and proceed to skate, fall, sweat, bleed and laugh in a brief respite to the responsibilities and challenges of daily life.
This first clip is a microcosm of why we continue to chase this feeling well into our adult lives: Philippe (who I’ve only met once before) told me he hasn’t done Indy airs in years and asked for some pointers. I watched him attempt a few and gave my best advice. He tried it for most of our session and then something clicked just as our exhaustion and endurance were closing in, culminating in this moment of pure joy and youthful exuberance. The power and hold that this hobby / sport (vice?) has over us is immeasurable, and worth all the effort. Thanks to Dario for the invite, for supplying the ramp and sharing the passion.”
